Youth Programs for Continuing Education

Youth Programs for Continuing Education

At all Paradigm Treatment Center locations, we offer a fully inclusive Youth Programs for Continuing Education, in order to ensure all of teens’ academic needs are met and their responsibilities can be fulfilled, while in treatment. In order to identify the best combination of Youth Programs for Continuing Education and support for each young person, all teens receive a thorough educational assessment within 48 hours of admission. The teens’ treatment team and classroom teacher will then use this information to create an individualized education plan that will address the teens’ current needs, while also incorporating the teens’ academic and treatment goals, so they support each other. The result is teens leave Paradigm having caught up and/or even exceeded their classmates in their current studies. Perhaps even more importantly, teens are able to return to their local schools with the confidence and skill-set necessary to navigate academic struggles and challenges in healthy, sustainable ways.

The core components of the Youth Programs for Continuing Education at Paradigm Treatment Centers include the following services.

On-Site Classroom

Each Paradigm Treatment Center offers an on-site therapeutic classroom for teens, which provides a safe, supportive learning environment where teens can study, work on assignments, and/or work toward any other academic goals. The classroom is facilitated by a credentialed teacher, who is able to assist teens in their studies. For the complete description of our on-site classroom, please visit the page here.

Individualized Tutoring

In addition to the classroom teacher, we also provide individualized tutoring, by local college students who are experienced in working with youth. The tutors work with teens one-on-one and help teens to address problem areas and/or specific stressors, which may be more challenging to address in the larger classroom setting. The Individualized Tutoring program is hugely popular and we believe a foundational reason for teens’ success in improving their academic success and confidence. Psycho-Educational Services

At Paradigm Treatment Centers, we’re committed to clear, open, and honest communication, in every aspect of our work with young people and their families. We believe this is necessary in order to support teens to make the efforts and changes necessary to achieve and sustain recovery and sobriety. Our Psycho-Educational Services program is designed to provide teens and families with useful information surrounding the scientific nature of what they’re experiencing, including the biological, psychological, and emotional aspect of mental illness and addiction. These sessions are not designed to instill fear, but rather, to help teens and families understand what’s happening and then make educated decisions based on authentic motivations. Relapse Prevention

One integral aspect of our treatment process is to provide young people and families with the information and support they need to be equipped to prevent relapse. In this Youth Programs for Continuing Education, we educate teens and families as to the stages of relapse, the red-flags which often proceed relapse, and active steps teens and families can take, to sustain and protect sobriety. For the full description of our relapse prevention, please read here.

Medical Aspects of Addiction and Recovery

These educational sessions are designed to provide teens and families with a more in-depth knowledge of the medical impact of drugs and alcohol on the body, as well as risks for short and long-term neurological impact. Our full description of the medical aspects of addiction and recovery can be found here.

Family Dynamics and Education

These sessions at Paradigm are focused on working with teens and their families to evaluate the ways in which addiction affects the entire family dynamic. We discuss what dynamics exist as well as what changes in these dynamics will serve to promote the teen’s sobriety as well as the well-being of the entire family. Emotional Management

One of the central differences in Paradigm treatment is our focus on supporting teens to do the deeper emotional introspective work of discovering who they are and how they function best. For many teens that have been struggling with addiction, recognizing and articulating their emotions can be tremendously challenging, especially at the beginning of treatment. We provide Emotional management education to help teens become more aware and comfortable sharing their feelings and exploring their experience with emotions such as fear, anger, shame, and frustration.
