At Paradigm Treatment Centers, we believe that the most effective and thorough therapy is that which draws from a number of different approaches and modalities, providing teens with many opportunities to engage in their own therapeutic process. For this reason, we draw upon several different therapy techniques, including Teen Action Oriented Therapy. Teen Action Oriented Therapy is considered a goal-oriented approach to treatment and is similar in style to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The central focus of this therapeutic approach is for teens to be able to identify healthy, beneficial actions toward achieving recovery and growth in their lives.
These specific actions which teens and therapists identify may include specific goals, behaviors, or habits that teens put in place, which contribute toward their overall mental and physical wellness. The actions may be related toward problematic behaviors teens are struggling with or be more focused on symptoms teens are trying to gain relief from. During Teen Action Oriented Therapy sessions, therapists usually create a more structured session, in which they discuss the specific nature of the goals at hand and what tangible steps teens can practice, toward meeting these goals. Because of the nature of these kinds of focused sessions, Teen Action Oriented Therapy has been shown to be extremely useful for teens trying to overcome a number of different mental health and substance abuse conditions with strong behavioral components, including Teen Depression, Teen Anxiety, Teen Substance Abuse, Teen Eating Disorders, and Teen Bipolar Disorder.
One of the benefits of Teen Action Oriented Therapy is it is more tangible than other talk therapy sessions, which are more designed to help teens explore and identify their thoughts and feelings, as well as to discover the deeper underlying causes for their current struggles. In this sense, we find that Teen Action Oriented Therapy sessions provide an excellent supplement to the more introspective therapy work, in which teens identify what kinds of connections exist between their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and belief systems. By taking this knowledge and then focusing on tangible choices they have power over, and how to put these choices into action, teens are able to make remarkable gains toward meaningful and lasting recovery and change.
